Record Tying Night @ MERGE (0)

Literally. We had one of our middle school students, Monica Rozman, tie the Guinness World Record for the most powdered doughnuts eaten in 3 minutes. The record was previously held by Christopher "Big Black" Boykin of "Rob and Big" fame. We're submitting the video as I type to Guinness for confirmation. We had already verified the size and weight of the doughnuts, as well as how the contestants were to eat them.

You can see the video by visiting the Foothills' Students Blog. Labels:

A Little COLLIDE Love (0)

COLLIDE is our new worship experience for high school students. In our last series, "Do Work Son," we focused on serving God and others. We gave the students and volunteers a couple of opportunities to break some Guinness World Records during the series. While no one was successful, one of our volunteers, David, came very close to breaking the record for "karate-chopping" pencils in one minute. The record is 134 and he broke...125! While impressive, he didn't quite measure-up. Here's a little bit of the video to show you how it went down. BTW...COLLIDE drops at 6:30pm every Sunday night, and this week we'll kick-off a new series called "Better Off Dead."

Later.

Turning Over a New Leaf (0)

As some of you who read my blog on regular basis have already discovered, I'm a wee bit sarcastic. By wee bit, I mean a lot. I've always been one of those people who can come-up with witty, yet sarcastic, comment at the blink of an eye, but recently, I've been asking God to break me of my sarcastic nature.

Don't get me wrong. I still want to joke around and have a good time, but I don't want to do it at the expense of someone else. After spending some time studying through Matthew 12, I was reminded of the second half of verse 34: "For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks." God slapped me silly with the thought that my sarcastic jokes may actually be my feelings toward someone. Scary thought. Really scary thought.

With that in mind, I've decided to take on a personal challenge that will include three groups of people with whom I spend the majority of my time: my wife, my co-workers, and our student ministry volunteers. The challenge is going to be saying at least one positive, up-lifting or encouraging statement to those individuals each week. I know that once a week seems small, but some of those folks I only see a couple times a week.

This post is not meant to be a pat on the back, or an "at-a-boy;" rather, it's meant to be an accountability tool. My plan is to post every Tuesday how many of those people received a positive comment from me during the past week. The challenge will last one month. My prayer is that after a month, this will become more of my nature than the sarcastic one that is currently present. I'm not the most compassionate or encouraging person on earth, so this will definitely stretch me, but that's what I want God to do during the next month. So, I'll start with you...the readers. I count it a privilege that you would use your precious time to read the junk that throw-out here on a regular basis. You rock! Labels:

Yeah, It's Monday (1)

OK. I realize that for the last few months my first post of the week has been on Tuesdays, but I decided to switch things up a little bit. I hope you don't mind.

Yesterday, I was given the privilege of speaking in our 9:30am and 11:15am services. I'll go ahead and say it: yesterday was tough! We were finishing our series on families (Revolution: A Beatles Guide to Family), and the topic was "singles." This was the first time that I had ever spoken on the topic, and for the first couple of weeks, I was crazy nervous. The last thing that I wanted was to come across that I had all of the answers about being single. My prayer was that the message would be one of encouragement. The more I studied and prepared, the more I came to realize just how negatively the world views being single. It began to break my heart that singles may feel that God is punishing them, or that there may be something wrong with them. With that in mind, we focused on 3 tasks for singles that will help them keep a positive mindset about their situations:
1. Keep the proper perspective - 1 Corinthians 7:25-28
2.Take advantage of your situation - 1 Corinthians 7:32-35
3.Work on your "love life" - Matthew 22:37-40

So, if you're reading this and you're single, remember that God is not punishing you. He is actively pursuing you, and as you actively pursue Him you will discover His perfect plan for your life.

OK. I Lied (0)

I know that I said that I would post yesterday and today about the last two weeks, but I was enjoying a day off with my wife. Instead, I'll give you some really quick highlights.

Foothills' Students has a new blog. Check it out Here.

Last two weeks of "Do Work Son!" have been awesome. Taught on how God trusts us with gifts and abilities so that we can do work for Him, and then we put a real life scenario in front of the students. You'll be hearing a lot about that next week.

Putting a program in place for student ministry at our Tocooa campus. Can't wait to get it up and running. Only a couple more weeks!

Finalized the dates and speaker for our Ignite weekend. Quickly- Stuart Hall, May 15-16.

We're going to be sending info to a ton of churches about Ignite. If you're reading this and would like more info, just comment on the post and we'll hook you up.

Developed a nagging cough over the last week. It's keeping up at night, and I'm exhausted.

Spending the majority of today giving tomorrow's message one last look. Yes, I'm speaking in the main services tomorrow. I can't wait! Labels:

Two Weeks Off (0)

I will admit that blogging has been the last thing on my mind. The last two weeks have been crazy...in a good way. I was going to record a video blog and share all of the info, but my voice is shot. I really need to try and conserve it as much as possible. I actually can talk faster than I can type (ask Michelle and she'll agree), so I would be able to cover everything in a much shorter time. Instead, I'm going to dedicate Friday and Saturday to posts that catch you up on some cool stuff that's happened over the last two weeks.

Thanks for dropping in! Labels:

Bullet Point Tuesday (0)

Not much time for this today, so you're getting the short version:

*Michelle had some demon-possessed stomach virus this weekend - she's better.

*Foothills - flippin' awesome!

*Greg's message on marriage - incredible.

*The last two weeks of "Do Work Son!" - off the chart insanity (don't miss it).

*The next series for MERGE and COLLIDE - words won't do it justice.

*The feeling of having almost next series' talks outlined - liberating.

*Leadership training the first Monday of each month - challenging.

*Super Bowl XLIII - great game.
